What kind of qualities in work environments support innovation, sharing of knowledge, and collaborative knowledge creation?
InnoStaVa (Innovation supporting work environments in start-up companies) is a research project coordinated by Oulu School of Architecture in 2016–2018. The focus of the project is to research innovation-supporting work environments: what kind of spaces support sharing of knowledge and collaborative creation of new knowledge?
These questions are explored through designing pilot workspaces in existing companies – focusing on aspects such as space, furniture, lighting, materials and colours. The users of these spaces are involved in the design and evaluation of the proposed solutions through participatory methods. You can read more on our research methods on the blog post “What we talk about when we talk about pilots” by researcher, architect Piia Markkanen.
